Connections
ZĀL is a breaker: no letter can be connected after it. Thus DĀL has only two forms: a detached and a final form:
When ZĀL appears at the beginning of a word, it will be in its detached form. | ذرا | zarā |
When ZĀL appears after another breaker, it will be in its detached form. | اذان | azān |
When ZĀL appears after a non-breaker, it will be in its final form. | جذبات | jazbāt |
Note that final ZĀL looks a lot like detached ZAY, but you won’t confuse the two because final ZĀL is always connected to the preceding letter and detached ZAY is never connected to the preceding letter.
