Sounds
QĀF is pronounced by closing the very back of the throat, further back than for “k”.
Hindi equivalent: क़
Do not confuse QĀF (ق) with the normal “k” sound represented in Urdu by KĀF (ک) and in Hindi by क (without the dot below). Try to distinguish between QĀF (ق) and KĀF (ک) in your pronunciation. Many Punjabi Urdu speakers pronounce QĀF (ق) the same as KĀF (ک) however.
Connections
QĀF can connect from both sides: Thus it has four forms: detached, initial, medial, and final.
